To enter competitions you must be a club member and have paid your subscription for the current year. If you are unable to see the entry panels below then you probably are not logged in. Login using the login option under the ‘member’s area’ and then return to this page.
This competition will be split into a scored section where the commentator will appraise your image and then afterwards award it a credit, bronze, silver or gold award and an appraisal-only section where the commentator will appraise your image but will not make an award.
Please make your submission in the relevant section below, you may enter a maximum of one entry in each section. An entry is EITHER a single image OR a panel. The deadline for entry is midnight on Sunday 5th Feb 2017. Although this is a print competition and it is the print that will be appraised we require an accompanying digital file for projection on the evening. This file must be in .jpg format and smaller than 1920 x 1080 pixels and 2 MB to be uploaded, see below if you need help reducing your image size. If the filesize is too big reduce the quality setting slightly. The image must also be at least 400 pixels across. Your entry also requires a title. If you do not wish to give your image a title then write ‘untitled’ in the title field.
Each print must bear a label on the back that matches exactly to the title submitted above. This label must be clearly legible under low lighting conditions so the use of black ink on a white label in block capitals is strongly recommended. This label must be the only title on the back of the print any previous labels must be removed or struck through.
Although we will accept unmounted prints and prints in non-standard mounts we strongly recommend that you use a 400mm x 500mm aperture mount. This is both so that the print is shown to its best advantage on the easel but also to protect it during the competition as the prints will be stacked in various piles throughout the evening and if all the prints are in the same size aperture mount this protects the image surfaces of all the photographs.
If you have any problems with entering images please first read the rules (click here) and if that doesn’t help please email the competitions team firstname.lastname@example.org
Sorry, you must be logged in to see this.
You can only upload JPEG images. So no TIFFs, BMPs or RAW files please. We will not be able to project them.
The Club’s projector has been set up to the 1080p standard (1920px x 1080px) at about 2.1 Megapixels. This is a 16:9 widescreen aspect ratio and therefore is not the normal photographic 35mm ratio of 3:2. Your images can be any ratio you wish but should not exceed 1920 pixels horizontally by 1080 pixels vertically (Note: This does not mean 1920 pixels vertically.).
In Photoshop several stages need to be completed and much more thought is required to get this right.
In the case of this widescreen shape image the full width of 1920 pixels can be set while the height is within 1080 pixels so this will be fine. It is rarely the case that images will be 1920 pixels across the long edge however as images taken on digital cameras tend not to be long and thin like this.
In the second image which is a portrait, the maximum height of 1080 pixels is set keeping the width within 1920 pixels.
However in this landscape shape image “Ford & Concorde”, setting 1920 on the long edge would result in a height above 1080 pixels, so in this case 1080 pixels is entered as the height.
2. Save for web
The Save for web dialogue box enables a single step for saving sRGB, JPEG and choose compression level – I use 80% for competitions.
