The club has arranged to exhibit work on the Brighton Beach gabions (in front of the Grand Hotel) in June for approx 6 months.
There is capacity to hang 47 photographs (plus a BHCC title board) which will be mounted on gabions directly on the beach.
The prints will be professionally printed at A1 size onto aluminium sheets and then screwed directly to the gabions. Be aware that you will have to cover the cost of your image being printed – the price this year (quoted April 2019) is £57.60 per print, which includes VAT, an anti-grafitti laminate, and pre-drilling for 6 screws.
Your image entries need to be submitted in two stages: Submission for Selection (low resolution files) and Submission for Printing (high resolution files).
It is a condition of entry that your image may be displayed on the club website at any resolution up to the full resolution submitted and for an unlimited duration, including after your membership has ceased. If this is not acceptable then do not enter the exhibition as it may not be possible to fully remove your images from the club database or prevent their display, and possible download, from the club website.Sorry, you must be logged in to see this.
Once the selection process is completed you will be notified if any of your images have been selected and then will need to send in a high-resolution copy of your images, along with the entry fee which will be £57.60 per image. This fee is to cover the cost of the professional printing and mounting. You will receive your image back to keep after the exhibition is finished.
The exhibitions team will arrange for the images to be printed and to ensure uniformity of presentation will handle the captioning etc.
High-resolution files will need to be submitted via a form on this page. The form will be made available once we are ready to collect final image files.
The final file for printing must be in .jpg format and sRGB colour space and since it is being printed at A1 size at 300 dpi, must be 9930 pixels on its longest dimension x a maximum of 7004 pixels. So if it is a portrait image it must be 9930 pixels high and a maximum width of 7004 pixels and if it is a landscape it must be 9930 pixels wide with a maximum height of 7004 pixels. If it is square then both sides must be 7004 pixels. You may need to upscale your image . The image file size must be less than 15 mb so if your file size comes out more than this you will need to lower the jpg quality slightly.
Your entry requires a title and photographer’s name which should be provided exactly as you want them printed. If you do not wish to give your image a title then write ‘Untitled 1’, ‘Untitled 2’ etc in the title field so that we can distinguish between individual images. Please follow the guidance above for titles and file names.
It is a condition of entry that your image may be displayed on the club website at any resolution up to the full resolution submitted and for an unlimited duration, including after your membership has ceased. (an upload form will be added here once selection is complete)
The exhibition is being held in an open public area that is accessible 24/7. Because of this the images must be printed and mounted in a way that is both weather-proof and vandal-proof. Experience from three previous exhibitions in this same space has shown that printing on aluminium and mounting with security screws achieves these aims but it does mean that hanging takes a considerable amount of time.
The exhibition won’t happen unless enough volunteers are available to collect the prints from the printers, transport them to the beach, drill and screw the prints on the gabions and do the reverse at the end of the exhibition.
It is also useful if someone can visit the exhibition occasionally to fix any minor damage or vandalism that has occurred.
If you want to exhibit in this exhibition please consider volunteering for one of the many jobs that need to be done to make the exhibition a success. To do so please contact email@example.com.
