HOW TO ENTER YOUR PHOTOGRAPH FOR ‘HOPE, ACTUALLY’

‘HOPE, ACTUALLY’ is a Brighton & Hove Camera Club project aimed at placing cheerful photographs where they are most needed – hospitals, care homes, surgeries and so on.

The idea is to provide large, colourful, uplifting, optimistic and generally therapeutic images, free of charge, to any of our local public institutions who are involved in general care provision for the sick and elderly.

The cost of providing the prints will be borne by the club, who will retain ownership of the A1 prints, but of course copyright will remain with the original photographer/author. Each picture will carry the name of the photographer plus optional contact details, and the BHCC logo and website information.

The prints themselves will be made on rigid foam-core board, which is cleanable and easy to hang on a variety of surfaces. They will be initially offered to institutions as a long-term loan, and possibly circulated around more than one institution.

We aim to pilot this idea over the next 1-2 years, with a view to expanding it if it becomes successful.

THEMES FOR ‘HOPE, ACTUALLY’

We hope that every member of BHCC would like to contribute at least one image to this cause, and more if they wish.

If you have a suitable image you’d like to put in, it’s easy. All you have to do is provide us with a .jpg which is suitable to fit the A1 size requirement (see below) – and of any theme you like that fits the following criteria.

Anything can be considered – from the street belly-laugh, through to colourful & oddball – and even animals / wildlife & the generally aesthetic & beautiful!

Remember, the idea is to cheer people up, so please avoid obscure, inaccessible, over-abstract, gritty, sombre, or dark & dangerous ideas!

Photographs for ‘Hope, Actually’ can reflect any of the following qualities – though your own ideas are most welcome.

– Cheerful

– Inspiring

– Optimistic

– Positive

– Hopeful

– Quirky

– All forms of diversity & inclusion

– Humour for kids / grown-ups / senior citizens

Test out your ideas on others – if they work well for them, they will for most people.

You can submit a panel of up to 5 separate images, and we are open to most ideas.

When we reach 100 entries, all pictures submitted will be reviewed by a volunteer selection committee made up of club members, whose decisions will be final.
