We are one of the few clubs that look after our new members by offering a specific programme when you first join.
Our New Members Group Evenings run throughout the season and offer workshops, critiques evenings and plenty of other sources of help to photographers of all standards. Also keep an eye on our New Members Group News for what we have been up to recently.
As well as attending Members Evenings on Tuesdays, new members are also invited to our New Members Evenings. They take place on Thursdays, approximately monthly, usually at the English Language Centre, in Salisbury Road, Hove. At the moment, we’re hosting meets online via Zoom.
New Members Evenings are workshop-based and so are a great way to develop your photographic skills. There is an emphasis on developing your photographic eye and thinking about how we communicate visually.
The workshop programme includes illustrated talks on making your photography more dynamic, creating abstract work and thinking about how images work together as sets. There are also workshops on practical subjects, such as basic post-processing techniques, and follow-up themed critique evening, where your work is assessed by the workshop leaders.
The New Members Group is for photographers of all levels, from beginners through to those who are experienced. You’ll get feedback on your work as well as learning practical skills. You also have the opportunity to share your own expertise and ideas.
The Thursday New Members Evenings are smaller and more informal than the Tuesday Members Evenings and are a great way to meet other new members.
We suggest that new members attend New Members Evenings for their first year.
We encourage new members to come to the Club’s Tuesday evenings as well as to the Thursday workshops. The Club attracts visiting speakers from all walks of photography and they are invariably generous with their experience, knowledge and advice.
We also encourage new members to enter images for Tuesday critique evenings, which is another way of having your work assessed by commentators from both outside and within the club. Members are also encouraged to submit entries to Club exhibitions and to external exhibitions and competitions.
